DEFINITION OF GARDENER
The Latin word hortŭlus , which alludes to a "small garden" , derived in the late Latin hortulānus , which became hortolano and then horticultural . As an adjective , a gardener refers to that linked to a garden .
The orchards, in as much, are lands that are destined to the crop of fruits and vegetables . That is why the individual dedicated to the care and development of vegetable gardens is called a gardener .
The most common use of the term, however, is related to a colloquial expression about the "gardener's dog" , which does not eat but does not let others eat either . This is because the can of a person who takes care of a garden does not feed on the vegetables that his master cultivates, and at the same time does not allow other animals to eat the crops.
In 1618 , the Spanish Lope de Vega presented a comedy entitled "El perro del hortelano" . There he tells the story of a woman who can not love a man and for the same reason does not allow this subject to love or be loved.
Suppose that, in a certain Legislature , a political party refuses to give a quorum to hold sessions. This attitude means that even their own legislators can not present projects. Faced with this reality, journalists say that the political party in question is like the dog of the gardener , since it does not legislate and it does not make it possible for others to legislate.
Hortelano, on the other hand, is a greenish-gray bird that is common in Spanish territory. This animal measures about twelve centimeters from the tail to the beak.
