Definition
of Illiterate
Illetrado is
an adjective that allows referring to those who can not read or
write . It is, therefore, a synonym for illiterate .
The concept,
in turn, is the antonym of a lawyer . Formerly
qualified as a lawyer to the individual who knew how to write and / or
read. At present, literate is said to the educated subject, scholar or
cult; by extension, an illiterate is someone who does not have much
knowledge (although he can read and write).
For
example: "My grandfather was an illiterate immigrant who managed to
progress in this country thanks to his effort" , "The truth
is that I am illiterate in economic matters, but I do not think that applying
for a loan to the International Monetary Fund is a good idea taking into
account tells the antecedents of that organism " , " I will
not let any illiterate politician come to tell us how we have to govern " .
Being
illiterate is a disadvantage because knowledge is a valuable resource
in all areas. A person who can not read or write is almost impossible to
access a well-paying job. At the same time, he will have difficulties
defending his rights.
Even an
adult who is not illiterate but who does not know how to compute or
manage another language beyond their mother tongue can be illiterate in many
areas as society increasingly demands knowledge. In the 21st century, it
is not enough to know how to read and write in order to grow in the workplace,
except in certain sectors.
That is why
fighting illiteracy and making it less and less illiterate is an
objective that all governments consider. Favoring access to education ,
in this framework, is essential.
