Definition of Insolation
The insolation is the act and
the result of insolar , whose first meaning according to
the dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE )
refers to putting something in the sun to dry or promote
fermentation. The concept of insolation, however, has several uses.
It is called insolation to the discomfort that
a person suffers when exposed to the sun's rays excessively . This
exposure increases body temperature, especially of the head, and generates
various disorders.
Heat stroke causes headache ,
drowsiness, tachycardia, nausea and vomiting, and even in its most severe cases
can lead to seizures. When someone is insolated, it has to be moved to a
cool place and the skin should be moisturized with a damp sponge. In
addition, you can apply ice packs on the back, neck and other parts of the body
so that, little by little, it recovers normal body temperature.
To avoid sunstroke, it is best not to expose
yourself to sunlight when the radiation is strongest (between 11 and 16
o'clock), hydrate frequently with cold water, eat a balanced diet and
wear fresh, light-colored clothing.
The notion of insolation, on the other hand,
mentions the amount of solar energy a surface receives in a
day or a year. In the first case, there is talk of diurnal insolation ,
while in the second, annual sunshine is mentioned .
To estimate the insolation, you can measure
the radiation in the upper part of the atmosphere , assume that there
is no gaseous layer or appeal to a complex calculation that takes into account
the atmospheric influence.
