Definition of Workstation
To
understand what the concept of a workstation refers to , it is
useful to focus first on the terms that make up the expression. Station is
a notion with several meanings: in this case we are interested in its
meaning as the set of facilities that are used to carry out certain
tasks.
Work , on the other hand, is the exercise of a trade or a
profession or the development of a remunerated activity. Returning to
the idea of a workstation , we can affirm that it is a computer
that is intended for professional, technical or scientific work .
The
workstation, also known as workstation by its English denomination,
is usually a computer (a computer) with advanced features that is
connected to different peripherals (printers, scanners, etc.) and that is part
of a network . In general,
a workstation is linked to other computers and a server . This
facilitates the fact of working as a team, sharing resources and data.
It is
important to mention that, although there were important technical differences
between a home computer and a workstation, today these distances have been
shortened, especially in certain areas. Keep in mind that the most
advanced workstation of a few decades ago offered fewer features than
a current PC used by any child to study or play.
In any case,
in those sectors where a high processing speed and capacity are required to
work with immense amounts of information, the work stations continue to be
special teams with outstanding qualities.
