Definition of Freelancer
The
English term freelance is often used in our language, although
the Royal Spanish Academy ( RAE ) recognizes it as a freelance . The
literal translation refers to a "free spear" and, by
extension, to a "mercenary" .
It
is called freelance to the worker who develops his activity autonomously :
that is, without a fixed relationship and dependency with an employer. The
freelance worker, in this way, sells his work to different companies,
charging the fruit of his labor to each of them.
Many journalists and designers are
freelancers. What they do is to receive specific assignments of works:
articles, interviews, design of a brochure, etc. Once they fulfill the
assignment and deliver it, they get money specifically for what they
have done.
Freelancers
(or freelancer), therefore, charge for work done . They do not
have a fixed salary or enjoy benefits such as paid vacations, bonuses or
leave. They themselves must pay the taxes corresponding to their work and
also the social charges (social work, retirement). As points in favor,
they enjoy the possibility of managing their schedules, they can work from home
(saving even in travel expenses) and do not have a direct boss.
A
journalist who wishes to exercise his trade freelance, for example, can put
together a website with his resume and publish some notes of his
authorship as a sample. Then you can contact magazines and digital portals
that may be interested in your work. Thus, over time, the journalist
starts selling his articles to different media. At the end of each month,
the sum of the values of the notes you sold in the period constitute your
income.
